he wasn't even really talked about in the mvp race in dallas, but when he joins the run a gun style of the suns, his stats inflated by 3 in points and 2 in assists, and bam mvp.
the suns improved dramatically that year, but thats because they got a whole new roster. suddenly sports writers saw that the suns we're hot this season, and tryed to find a reason why. it was very ones contributions on the team that really was the reason.( nash and co lost to the iverson-webberless 76ers this season bc marion was out). An mvp should also carry a team when needbe as well as help it. With just 1 guy like marion or amare out of the lineup, nash's suns would flop. but because the sports writers wanted to pick 1 person as the reason the suns were so hot, they saw the intentional(he said so him self) flashy passes of nash (his assist/turnover ratiois not good) and decided he should be the reason. Suddenly, all those sports writers in canada who have votes on MVP for the NBA, got all excited.

Canadians don't know anything nor care about basketball (see Vancouver Grizzlies,) so they're not allowed to vote.

And pretty soon we're going to take hockey away from them too!

Of course he wasn't talked about in Dallas. He was not even an all-star there; Juwon Howard, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley were. Then you say that the Suns got a whole new roster; well, they got Steve Nash and Quinten Richardson and got rid of player-poison Stephon Marbury. And the Suns gained 33 games in one year. Not only did he increase in points and assists, but he increased in FG% and 3pt FG%; he's always been a great FT shooter.

Your argument that "just 1 guy like marion or amare out of the lineup nash's suns would flop" doesn't hold water. The entire SEASON last year amare was out, and what did Nash and the Suns do? Oh yeah, they "flopped" into the Pacific Division championship with 54 wins. Nash set personal career highs in scoring, rebounding and FG% and led the NBA with 10.5 assists per game.

His assist to turnover ratio (3.04) is good enough for 9th in the NBA this year. Compare to Kobe's 1.62 or LeBron's 1.83 and what he has is pretty darned good.

Very simple answer. Nash does not make Pheonix that must better, however Pheonix makes Nash better. When you are a team that takes 25 3 point attempts( not an exacly number) and play as fast as Phoenix does, there might be a few most assists handed out. Nash does not do anything that abnormal, he passes the ball to wide open players. The difference is the players around Nash can make the shot. Remember, there is no assist your teammates do not make shots( ask Allen Iverson and Andre Miller in Phili). The SUns make Nash better, not the other way around

They Did Not Get a New Roster. The only major moves was to get rid of Stephon Marbury and add Steve Nash. They already had the Matrix, Amare and Joe Johnson. They also added Q Richardson, but come on now. Do you think that made a difference at all. Basically with only one major addition they won 35 more games. Nash led the league in assists, and shot great percentages, also the suns faltered without him.

next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, Nash would be 34 years previous, aka a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days pass the PG curse age of 33, that's been shown persistently that 33 is the cut back of robust PG's. Stockton observed a decline in his sport at age 33 Jason Kidd observed a decline. Nash is not any diverse, he already has decrease back issues this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, observe how Nash rests on his decrease back with 4-5 minutes left in the 1st quarter until eventually like 8 mintues left in the 2d quarter. His physique won't be able to safeguard the rigidity anymore, basically like Shaq, he has to confess defeat to this ingredient referred to as age. basically ask the senior citizen Dikembe Mutombo.

In Dallas, He was mainly playing the supporting role to Dirk Nowitzki among other players. There were other more prominant players doing the scoring, the rebounding, dishing out the assists...etc. Also, when he was in Dallas, they did well in the regular season but weren't really going anywhere in the playoffs; and even though the voters are only suppose to vote on regular season performance, it matters.

In Phoenix, he's in a better system to really play his game; 15-25 points a game, potential for triple-doubles, OFTEN DOUBLE-DIGITS IN ASSISTS, and that's what counts. When you can score and help other people score, that demonstrates a complete game; and in Phoenix he's able to do that and so they're able to go deep.

Shaq should of won the MVP when Nash won his first, I didn't make any sense that Nash Won it....
and last year when Nash won his 2nd MVP, they said he won it cuz the Suns lost Joe Johnson to the Hawks and Amaire Stourmie (misspelling) was out for the year with an injury.....
They still had Marion....who is better than most in the NBA..........I pray he does not win it this year....
