Do you have more than one hard drive in the system? Most drives come with an installation card and an explanation of the jumpers.

The jumpers determine if this is the ONLY drive in a system, the MASTER drive in a master/slave setup, or a SLAVE drive in the master/slave setup. You need to make sure that the jumpers are set correctly.

There are two connectors usually in total: The main ribbon cable that sends the data to the processor or to memory, the power supply connector. Both must be attached for it to work and be seen.

Also, make sure that you did not bend any pins when attaching that ribbon cable. It can happen if you tried to jam it in...it can only connect in one direction.

Finally, the drive should have come with a new ribbon cable. You may want to take the old one out and insert the new one if it is not attached to anything else. Who knows, maybe the old drive was actually still good and it was your ribbon cable that was actually not working right.

have you changed the jumper settings on the hard drive. Use the same setting as the hard drive you took out. Example of pic here.

Enter your bios while starting up and make sure it is auto detecting the hard drive or put in the information of the drive manually.

After plugging in the new drive, start up the computer but run setup or BIOS. Select drive configuration and put in the new drive info.

Repeat after me, "Being frightened of instructions is a sign of weakness, I am a real man and I am not afraid of anything."

Follow the instructions that came with your hard-drive, they are usually pretty thorough.
