The "mature" warning regarding the book comes from Anne's candid discussions about her body, sex, crush on Peter, etc. However, I find the situation ironic because you are the same age Anne was when she wrote in her now famous diary. There are two versions of Anne's writings. The first published and most widely read copy, "Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl," was edited by her father and sucessive publishers to remove some of the sexuality. A later version of the text, published about ten years ago, is "The Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition," which replaces the previously omited material. I hope your parents let you read at least one version of this amazing book! Good luck!

I would have thought that your English teacher would want you to read this book. It is a classic, and Anne is mature beyond her years. Perhaps by "mature content" your teacher means that the "Diary of Anne Frank" has a very sad, a very tragic ending. By all means, read this book in your spare time. It's a story and an author you will never forget.

Anne talks about sex in her diary. Also she talks about 'becoming a woman.' The content is fairly tame by today's standards.

Your teacher may be asking you to check with your parents because of previous problems (other parents complaining).

It is a wonderful book. It is also an historical document- well worth your time and energy to read.

Mature content can come from things other than nudity. It can be racist remarks, violence, hate crimes and such. The diary of Ann Frank did revolve around the nazi uprise so I would guess this might be the mature content they are speaking of
