its the same as an HB pencil.
_________
the other answers are wrong.
the united states uses a numbering system only. the hb was named using a european system.
In the US it is generally #1=B #2=HB #3=H. So the number (#1, #2, #3, etc) is the United States way of numbering the pencil. The letters (B, HB, H) is the European system. HB=#2

a no. 2 pencil is a 2H. however, i have noticed that a lot of pencils that have cutesy or novelty stuff about them do not perform exactly like a 2H. i am sure the manufacturers of art and drafting supplies are more careful of their quality than folks trying to sell pencils with spongebob or spiderman or holograms on them.
if you have doubts and you have to know, get some technical pencils and make little squares of sample marks and see where your pencil falls in the spectrum. after years of drafting,(actually by hand--yes i am old :-), i've found that the consistency and "hand" of the pencils and leads made by companies making art and drafting supplies is better than the random #2 pencils you can pick up almost anywhere.
