My son is turning 1 next month. He is also going to be Christened 2 days after his 1st bday. We've decided to celebrate both (bday and Christening) on the same day (the day of the Christening).

I need ideas on where to have the party/ reception? We have lots of family and friends coming from out of town and don't want to do it at home.

We had the same problem! My son's birthday party was on a Saturday and he was christened the next day. We actually separated the two, however, because we wanted only very close family and the godparents at the baptism. We had a birthday party at a local park with a picnic lunch and some games and we had a brunch at our house the next morning after the service. Good luck!

Does your church have a reception hall for members who are celebrating weddings, funerals, and christenings? I spent several years working in a catering company, and these events are very commonly held at the church. If the church is close knit, and you are an active member, they might not even charge you for the use of the room.

Your local rec center will most likely have party rooms for rent, I have great experience with that - stuff will give you a hand if you need to, you don't have to worry about cleaning, they are usually able to do quite big parties and most likely they'll have entertainment for the kids (indoor, outdoor playgroung, jungle gyms, etc). And since it's B-Day party too, they can provide goodie-bags too.
