Go to http://safety.live.com make sure you use internet explorer to do this. Run that and it should clean up a lot of registry problems. I would also recommend to download firefox it's a secure browser and it cuts down a lot of pop-ups!

Windows stores its configuration information in a database called the registry. The registry contains profiles for each user of the computer and information about system hardware, installed programs, and property settings. Windows continually references this information during its operation.

If all was working well and this just started, have you added anything? Have you connected a new device?
If so the driver or application that you added may have corrupted the registry.

First try a restart. If the message persists you may have to repair the registry. (If so you may need a professional to assist)

You might also try to recover by using the RESTORE function and simply roll your computer back to a date before the error started. (Just do a HELP RESTORE) from the help menu.

In my opinion I wouldn't recommend running anything to fix the error utill you have done a backup of anything you want to save. One thing that you can get that I have found that solves most problems is Registry Mechanic. It can be found here http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/?ref=google_rm This is a very good program and could be your fix. I can say for sure that it will fix it because most of the time when there are registry problems then you need to reinstall windows.

try restoring to an earlier restore point. start-->all programs-->accessories-->system tools-->system restore. choose a point or date when you know your pc worked well. honestly, i would just go to the earliest restore point as possible. good luck!
