Maybe you should look for friends who have similar interests and think about making your love for dogs into a career. My mom is not that great with people but has a connection with animals. I don't find that weird, it's just your thing. Be yourself and do what makes you happy. :-)

Its good to have conversations with other people that you are passionate about, but not dogs all the time. You need to find out other subjects that you are interested in. So you can have a more wide variety of topics. For someone that is shy like you, that is very important. It sounds like dogs is your security topic, but it is really harming you socially. Walking your dog is a great way to meet people, strangers, and practice some basic social skills. Practice by yourself, some topics you can discuss. Give eye contact and smile! It is very important to smile. If you dont say anything at least you are smiling and you will be remembered as friendly. Another pointer is to not give one word answers but extend them. Your friend is right, you cant just talk about dogs. Its not healthy for you anyways! You need variety and to indulge yourself in different passions! Plus, not everyone else wants to talk about dogs. And what a conversational stopper if you want to talk about dogs and they dont. Small talk is what you need to work on. And dont worry you can do it! Just take a look at other things you enjoy and incorporate it into conversations.

You are not weird. Not at all. Imagine what a dull world it would be if everyone had the exact same interests. What's so weird about liking animals anyways, many people do. Who knows you may end up having a career working with animals. A true friend would support your interests even if she didn't share them. I would suggest you make more friends with similar interests or at least some who don't ridicule you for yours. Your friend who is home schooled is one. Perhaps you could volunteer at your local animal shelter as a dog walker or something. You would get to interact with animals and you would meet people who share a love of dogs. Even if they don't go to your school it will help you with socializing and eventually make you more comfortable with talking to people you don't know so well. Good luck!!

First of all be very careful who you speak to when you are out just because they have a dog does not mean they are as nice as you secondly you have an affinity with animals so you should perhaps think about becoming a vet or animal welfare officer when you leave school and lastly real friends will always support you and these are the only ones worth keeping good luck hon x

Ah this sounds like me, minus the dogs.
People at my school think I'm weird because I barely speak to anyone and when I do its usually about my theories and my thoughts, not about social venues.
You ARE NOT weird. You are just an introvert, someone who is more to themselves and interested in other things instead of people. Most people are extroverts and love being around people and socializing.
Just try to find someone you can relate to. Its a hard process, but don't ever feel let down. Everyone is unique and different.

Either find a new subject to talk about with your one friend or find some new friends that are into animals as much as you. Maybe donate some time at the local Humane Society, you should be able to meet some animal loving friends there!!

It sounds like you are most comfortable with dogs and they make you happy. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, that is great and talking about dogs helps you feel less shy.
Do not worry about what your friends say. Be yourself. If they thought you were so weird they would not be spending enough time with you to know about it.
Take care,
Troy

Study to become a veterinarian then it won't be at all weird to have dogs-on-the-brain. Your homeschooled friend sounds like a good prospect. Try to see her more often.

Relax and don't do a thing. You're not weird ok. You're just shy, and lots of people are like that. Most of us grow out of it. Just continue being yourself, and if the shyness you feel bothers you that much, then metion it to your parents. But please, don't buy into what your friends are saying.
