Mitosis is the process by which a cell duplicates its genetic information (DNA)

It is generally followed immediately by Cell Division or cytokinesis which divides the cytoplasm and cell membrane.

Mitosis and cytokinesis together define the mitotic (M) phase of the cell cycle
