The onwers just want to be cheap, that is all it is. They want workers who will do the time for as little as possible in terms of wages, and who *cannot* object to being treated poorly, that is, to being yelled at, abused, and overworked by managers.
Really. You yourself may work in a good restaurant, but those are few and far between, for the rest of us, working in a fast-food place is nasty, and even the folks in charge know it, so they look for immigrants, and illegal ones too in a last-ditch attempt to get as *close* to slave labor as they can get away with.
And as for "order accuracy"? They could care less....the customers are just *peons*, just wallets with mouths attached. Nobody cares anymore about doing right by the customers....it's all about volume, just shove something at them and get them to *leave*.
Yes. It. Is. Open your eyes.

companies dont train their staff right. The english thing well companies want to give out an image that the have a varied work force and are not maginalising ethics races, that and some companies pay illegal immigrants a bare min wage cos they get away with it. As a waitress myself however i can honestly say that cusomers are getting less patient and rude and if ou are having a bad day sometimes it is hard not to make a couple of mistakes esp since my manager never tells me the speacials that are for that day . I find alot of cutomers have no respect too ive had a few who click their fingers and throw money at you and act like total divas really it work both ways!!!!

I truly do hate that also, it happened to me yesterday at KFC, I ordered a leg and got a thigh and the lady kept interrupting me with wrong orders, if I spoke spanish she would have my order 100% correct =/
Simple, You pay for what you get.
Companies budget, if they can spend less on wages, the company makes larger profit. and if you take someone who barely knows much, you charge them less around $5.50 or so and they wont care. If you have someone who speaks clearly and intelligent, the management also has a risk of them leaving for a more sophisticated job. Notice most people in fast food are teens, minorities and unintelligent (in most cases)

They know that a lot of people in your area speak another language other than English, so they hire cashiers that don't know English.

I totally agree with you! I live in southern California and you cant go to a fast food place without speaking slowly so that the foreign person can understand your order! One time at Wendy's the cashier couldnt even count our change back to us in English!! It is ridiculous!!!

You must live in the Southwest US.
I'll bet having one of these non-English speakers as a cashier is even more fun when they're working the drive-thru. Those are hard enough when a fluent English speaker is working it.

Its called "Equal Opportunity" and thy have to give everyone a chance. Many times they can't find anyone to take the job and they have to hire the non-English speaking. Same thing for telephone soliciation people. Slow down, speak slowly and carefully, and listen carefully to them. Give them a break - after all they ARE working unlike a lot of PWVAS (plain white Vanilla Anglo-Saxon) folk.

As long as they understand what I am saying,
I don't really care how they sound when they speak to me, because I can figure it out!!
Just because a person cannot SPEAK a language clearly does NOT mean they cannot understand it when they hear it!
I don't speak Spanish fluently, but I sure do understand it when I hear it.

Mostly because if they didn't hire people who didn't speak English well, the company would be called racist and probably get sued. It's the whole equal opportunities thing, that many places now go by.

Amen, brother. I went and ordered a spinach pizza. I'm a vegetarian, so that sounds good to me. I was served a shrimp pizza ( a LOT of shrimp.) I objected - duh - I am a vegetarian, and wouldn't order such a thing. The fellow at the register showed me where he had entered "shrimp pizza." I was proud he could recognize the word "shrimp," but assured him I'd ordered no such thing.
I finally was served my pizza - with 4 stupid leaves on it.
