Well it might be the processor. You can upgrade the memory up to 4g and it can still be slow if the processor 1ghz.

Did you take the old 1GB memory chips out and put in a new set of 2GB chips, or did you simply add 1GB of memory to the existing 1GB memory?
If the speed of the memory is different between the sets of chips, it can cause poor performance or worse (Microsoft Blue Screen of Death).
Also, what were the two models of video card that you were using. There are two major competitors...one uses the nVidia chipset, and the other uses ATI. If the games or software that you are using are designed to work best using the nVidia chipset, but you have switched to ATI, then it may not perform as well even though you have a more powerful card.

As far as your memory is concerned you might want to try checking to see if you purchased a slower speed of ram, just because you upgraded to 2 GB you might have inadvertently grabbed some RAM that is slower, look for things labled PC##00, or DDR ###. and cross compare what was on your 1 GB RAM compared to whats on your 2 GB's.
As Far as your video card goes check and make sure you have the latest drivers for it. The easiest way is to go to the chipset manufactures website (theres really only two nVidia, and ATI) and update your drivers through the downloads and support section. If that doesnt work, check your motherboard and see if its compatable with both of the items you installed. If it is RMA both and get new stuff.

Anytime you upgrade a computer with higher performance parts, it will be a tad slow for a couple of weeks. Give it time to adjust, and it will be faster.

Try to upgrade your processor or see if you need to get the latest drivers. Try the drivers first.

it might not be your hardware causing slow performance rather you may have spyware on your pc....download some antispyware software such as spybot search n destroy http://www.spybot.com or adaware from lavasoft http://www.lavasoft.com (both free) and counterspy or xoftspy (both you have to pay for) scan your system and kill any spyware on your system.
