Everyone else swears my hair grows fast and has more body; I don't see it, but I guess I'll take their word for it. My hair is VERY fine and I always have split ends, unless I shave it all off. I'm 23 weeks pregnant, so I'm sure the pregnancy is factoring in there somewhere.
I've taken prenatal vitamins regularly for the last 2 years, recommended by my doctor because of iron-deficiency anemia so you can absolutely take them if you are not pregnant. They're very similar to a multi-vitamin; just more minerals tailored to a pregnant/nursing mother needs is all.

Some people swear by them, but really you could get by with a regular multi-vitamin. Vitamins are good for your overall health, and could possibly improve hair and nail growth (b vitamins especially). However, prenatal vitamins have alot of iron in them, because pregnant women are supplying blood to a growing baby and need more iron. So if you are not pregnant, that could be way too much iron for you, and it's possible for excess iron to build up in your joints over time and cause problems later in life. Go buy Women's One-A-Day, those are great vitamins and are fairly inexpensive. Wal-mart makes a generic version of them which are just as good.

Generally the great hair and nails come from the pregnancy hormones themselves (not the vitamins). But actually, the hair isn't really growing faster, it's just not falling out at the rate it normally does, so it's thicker, and can look healthier and longer.
Can you take them if you're not pregnant? Sure, in fact it's recommended if you're sexually active to do so.

I'm not sure what the reason is, but my hair grows faster now, I just thought it was because of the increased hormones and stuff....
And yes Every Woman who can get pregnant should actually take Vitamins, doesn't matter if Prenatal or just MultiVitamins...
Best of Luck to you!

The vitamins help with the strength and condition of your hair and nails, but don't make it grow faster. The pregnancy hormones make it grow faster.
It's fine to take prenatals even if you're not pregnant.

Prenatal vitamins are great! I've always taken them, pregnant or not, because of what they do for my hair and nails. I would assume that they have different effects on everyone, but for me they make my hair grow quicker and a lot healthier and my nails too.

You can take them pregnant or not but it will not affect your hair growth unless your just lucky. For my first pregnancy my hair grew fast and I was hardly taking them, now for my second pregnancy my hair is growing at a normal rate and I take the pills everyday. But take the vitamins are good for you anyway so if wouldn't hurt to try to see if it works for you.

They say they make your hair and nails grow. I think it varies person to person though. With my first child, the prenatals did not make my hair or nails grow. My nails did grow a lot after I quit taking them though. With my second child, the prenatals had no affect on my hair or nails. I am sure you could take prenatals to try to make your hair or nails grow but they might not do anything.

well it is said that they do make your hair grow, certain ones, mines certainly do. prenatal vitamins are basically like one a day vitamins that contain all of the proper nutrients that your body needs. and my doctor has me take them even after giving birth to my son. some doctors even recommend taking them before attempting to conceive so that your body will have all the proper nutrients to be prepared for a child. ask your doctor and see what they recommend.
