No running on the pavement.
No lifeguard on duty.
Beware of sharks.
Use the bathroom upon entering the pool.
Stay away from green spots.
Stay away from the deep end if you can't swim.

It does not matter what signs you put up. If something happens you will be liable no matter what is posted. The main thing is to limit your liability by first building a minimum six foot high fence that is at least 10 feet from the pool at all points. The fence must have a self locking mechanism that is "child-proof" and a sign must be posted on all visible sides of the fence warning children under the age of 14 not to play near the pool without adult supervision.
Make sure you add a "rider" to your homeowners insurance and get ready for a premium increase.

I would think that if the pool is a public pool there should be: No Running. Children(under10/12) must be supervised by an adult at all times. No eating or drinking.(at/in the pool) As well as the hours that it can be used. If it is your personal pool, just a sign that indicates that the pool cannot be used without permission or adequate supervision as well as "Private Property"

Some put a fence ( 6 foot or better ) around, sometimes required, and I would think some warning, or no trespassing signs. I would also advise, children not allowed in without supervision.

No lifeguard on duty is standard and stupid for a backyard pool. If you have deep and shallow areas it is good to let people know. My favorite sign is "Welcome to our ool. Notice there is no P in it. Help us keep it that way."
