a year ago we had a contract wit sbc dsl internet at the basic price 14.99. we bought the linksys to pair up wit the modem and it was blazing fast. After the contract was over, we renewed the SAME service which is 14.99. But this time, my sister moved out so she took the modem and the linksys router wit her. We ordered the white modem + router 2 in 1 from the company SBC itself. the problem now is that its super slow compared to the service i had back then. for example: to download a file from cnet, before the speed was 150 kbps, now its struggling to get up to 40 kbps. downloading from limewire went down from 80 ish kbps to 15 kbps. i called the tech support and they gave me some BS website to check the speed which got error on the page and did not detect my speed. i think its an excuse for them to get away with connection problems.
by any chance they gave me good connection the first time and now its the slower version since i renewed the contract? ps. my computer is perfectly fine

i use http://www.speedtest.net for broadband speed tests, also if its still slow call SBC back up and complain about the slowness. since there is little we can do to help, apart from maybe advise to do a full spyware/virus/defrag on the pc.

Ok I have a secret for you. I used to work for AT&T dsl tech support there is a 2nd tier. The only way to get anything done is to ask for them and if they can't figure out what's going on demand a Tech out to check your connection. The new 2wire may be bad, I hated that modem w/ a passion. The old 2wires were much better. If all else fails ask if you can down grade to the speed strem and just purchase another router. Oh and are you using wireless now? That may be another factor to the speed problem. If you have any problems e-mail me!

It's probably something in the new equipment. Your actual DSL line shouldn't have changed; the service extensions is all paperwork - nothing actually changes.

But, since you did change the hardware, that's probably where the problem is. Did you get the "2Wire" modem + router? That one works well and I've hooked a few up without any issues. Is your connection using a network card or USB? (USB will be slower.) Could one of your cables be bad?

I had SBC Yahoo when I lived in TX and had no issues with their services. From what you said, im assuming it is a hardware issue. Perhaps the modem is faulty or something? I would try to convince them that you are having hardware issues and see if they will let you swap that out?

Keep restarting your modem untill you get the correct connection speed. Other than that call sbc to get them to help. They are usually pretty good.
