You are omitting the pronouns. Try- I have completed a project in COBOL and received the grade Distinction. My portfolio is available upon request.

There is an error being picked up because that is a sentence fragment, meaning that it is an incomplete sentence... for instance, instead of typing:

"Completed a project using COBOL received grade Distinction. Portfolio available on request."

you should type:

"I have completed a project using COBOL and received a distinction grade. I have a Portfolio that is available on request."

hope this helps

I'm assuming this would be in a resume type document.

Maybe: "Completed a project using COBOL, and recieved grade of 'Distinction'. Portfolio available upon request.

I think the only reason why Word says it's a crap sentence is because of the "Completed a project using COBOL..." It probably wants you to make it a more "complete sentence" with a pronoun.

It indicates a grammatical error because there are no full sentences. Perhaps if you put
'Completed a project using COBOL.
Received grade: Distinction.
Portfolio available on request.'

"I received Grade Distinction for a project that I have completed using COBOL [whatever version]. I will gladly present my portfolio upon your request." That is, if you want to use it in a Cover Letter. If it's in a Resume`, then use this:

"Grade Distinction for project completion with COBOL [version]. Portfolio available upon request."

I completed a project using COBOL. I received a grade of Distinction. The sentences do not have a subject as written.

No subject at beginning. No conjuction between phrases, and the second phrase doesn't read clearly.
No verb in second sentence.

I completed a project using COBOL, and received a grade of Distinction. A portfolio is available on request.

Good luck.

You need another bit of punctuation in there. Better still, turn it round::

"Awarded Distinction for COBOL project. Portfolio available on request."

Try putting the quotation marks after Distinction. Portfolio available on request is not part of the completed project grade.
