The "point" is the blueline, when you are in the offensive zone, where your defensemen are positioned. Passing the puck out to the point spreads out the defence more and gives you some more offensive opportunities. This is the time when defencemen are referred to as "pointmen" because they are the men on the point.

Originally the point was the point where the bluelines met the boards. It has evolved and is the section of ice between the blue line and the tops of the face off circles. The area between the faceoff circles is called the slot.

Generally the area around the outer portions of each face off circle. Sort of between the top of the circle and the blueline.
When you are on the power play, the point is where defensemen are typically stationed, to best move the puck from side to side, and set up shots from the perimeter.
Also the defensemen can try to stop clearing attempts on the boards, and are in the best position to try and contain the short-handed team's forwards from breaking out of their end.

The "Point" is basically the offensive players position in the corner of the zone between the face-off circle and the blue line as they are facing inward towards the goal.

the point referes to the defenseman at the blue line. the forwards pass the puck back to teh defenseman at the point so they can take a shot on net and hopefully get a deflection, or the goalie just won't see it and they can score. the points are most often used used during a power play.
