I dont have good grades from high school. We moved around a lot when I was younger so that took a toll on my grades due to different school systems and standards. What is the best way to start? I want to be a high school english teacher. Any suggestions?

First, you need a bachelor's degree. That's important. I'm a teacher now, but I got there in a different way. I studied mathematics, not education in college. There is a great need for math and english teachers and there are lots of "alternate route" teaching programs. They take english, math, and science majors and give them credentials to teach. I would suggest majoring in english and then looking into these programs instead of the traditional route of an education degree. Check out these links for more info. Good luck!

Do you have a BA? That's the first step. The next step depends on what state you're in. You search for the Department of Education's website for your state and check what other requirements there are for being a teacher.

If you had bad grades, you might want to start at a community college and then transfer to a university. You should check out the teacher education programs at the university near you. They each have different qualifications.
