Nita, you require a graduate degree from an Indian University. But a mere graduation syllabus will hardly get you across this year long project. In fact you have to be quite conversant with at least two subjects of the level of Masters degree to get a hold on the exams. Add to this the General Studies paper where you are expected to know everything under the sun and even beyond it.
I don't know what studies you are pursuing but let me tell you that the difference between the selected and the also rans in this exam is usually on the basis of the General studies paper. Prepare that well. For the syllabus etc, you can got to he site of UPSC and download it from there. Good luck!
