In most areas, DirecTV only uses one dish. In some rural areas, the local channels are carried on a separate satellite that is further away in the sky than the others which carry programming for everyone else. Since this satellite is in a different direction, a different dish must be used just to get your local channels.

does a 18" direct dish with one lnb and two cable hookups support their latest receiver to be able to record and watch tv

should have just 1 call cust. serv. and have them give you a new 5 lnb dish that gets all the channels plus all the HDTV etc
