You cant format it from windows because the drive is in use. You would have to reboot with a boot floppy. You can find one at bootdisk.com.

kind of hard to format files that are in use, you have to create a boot disk and boot to it to get to a dos prompt. Then just type in format c: and away you go, there are a bunch of different switches you can put after the format c: but you would want to look those up and see which ones you want to use but you don't need to for just a basic format

You have to use a boot disk. (ie win 98) Do a Yahoo search for boot disk download and you should find something. Then boot to floppy and follow the instructions. Beware everything will be erase after the format so have backup/reinstall disks on hand. (I can not be held responsible for the actions you take so proceed at your own risk)

You have to boot from a boot disk first

To create a boot disk you can do:

format a: /s

then afterwards boot from the disk and type

format c: /s
