I want to download a video from youtube by entering the url so i can download the video in avi format.

Im not sure how to convert flv to avi?
Im wanting to use this video in Movie Maker, will it accept flv files?
(There is a site that downloads videos and converts them to avi, ive used it before but have forgotten the site name)

You can't download it in AVI format since no website will convert it for you. Transcoding should be done locally.
There is a Firefox extension called VideoDownloader that will download the FLV or whatever format used in YouTube. You can then convert THAT to some other format that's more usable.
EDIT: To convert from almost any format to any other format, use eRightSoft's SUPER

I use some free software called vdownloader. It allows you to change the format during download to such as mpg. It is available at several sites. This is one of them
