In my student teaching essay I wrote about my background,ie; where I went to high school, where I went to college, where I grew up. When I applied at a rural school I made sure to include that I helped with my husband's family farm. When I applied for an urban school I included the fact that I grew up in an urban area, but gave working on a farm a chance because I am up for anything. Unfortunately you just have to "sell yourself" as the best candidate. Don't forget to include why you became a teacher and your goals for continuing your education. I just finished student teaching and graduated from college in December. Now I have the fun part of resumes, applications, cover letters, and yikes...INTERVIEWS!

Can you write about one or more of your favorite or least liked teachers and what they did that made you love or hate learning from them?

For example, in my case I would write, "They say Latin is a dead language, but my Latin teacher Mrs. Norelli made the language come alive because she was a great storyteller. She also loved her subject so much that I couldn't wait to get to class because her enthusiasm was contagious. Although I do not plan to teach Latin, using storytelling and being enthusiastic are two qualities I want to develop in my own teaching method. In contrast to Mrs. Norelli, my chemistry teacher was rude to students, but he got away with it because he had the power in the classroom. Students gave him a nickname because he earned it: Pencilhead. So I intend to respect students, and hopefully I will earn a positive nickname, something like the Crazy Right Now teacher."

Okay, so I'm tripping, but can you write a rich, lively essay by discussing your own teachers? Good luck.

Use a quote about teaching and then relate it to yourself.
Good luck
