Hi, i am living in the UK and i will be travelling to India soon, how can i make cheap phone calls from India to UK? I mean in the UK we have pay as you talk, where we top up some money on our sim card and then we can ring or text, is it the same in india? Can i just buy a sim card and how do i put money on the sim card? I do not mind doing this as the £ is stronger, so i can top up £10 and i will have about 800 rupee on my sim card, is this enough to call the UK? How much are international calls on a india sim card?
Thanks alot for your help!

All the Service providers have a facility where you prepay and charge your account with adequate credits. All prepaid cards also have the provision to make overseas call. Just for your information, India is a place from where mobile calls are the cheapest. (yes yes, contrary to what you expect, it is cheaper than China ha ha ha)

You can chose from a variety of service provider (at least 4 service providers in any state). Hop onto the flight without a worry, buy a SIM card upon landing (if it is your final destination or buy it upon reaching your final destination). Buy credit (called recharge in this part of the world) to top up the account and Happy calling home ;-)

Yes, lots of prepaid SIM cards available in India. When i was there, i used Orange (visit the website for charges). Used it mostly to sms though, not really call ppl

in india the call rates are more cheaper than yours and will be a good idea to use india local sim to call uk! for that you can get a india mobile operator sim card on basis of your passport. visit any local customer care centers but only which are company operated not dealers, and ask them they will give you a pre-paid card which issame as pay as you talk. prefer Airtel! http://www.airtel.in http://www.hutch.in
