I am getting a Pontiac Solstice and am trying to decide whether to get an automatic or stick. I don't know how to drive a stick, but I can learn. Which, in your opinion, is better for a sports car? Are sticks difficult to learn, or should I just get an automatic (with this car they're harder to find and a little pricier) Thanks for your help

manuals are more fun to drive...autos are easier. clutches generally need replacement which is expensive. automatics simply fluid changes every 20 k or so...much cheaper. I don't think i would want to LEARN how to drive a stick on a new and expensive car, but it is not that difficulat to master, and once you DO get the hang of it, its a breeze

Automatic is the way to go (if you can afford one and find one)

Stick is nice..but after a while it's a pain in the rear and tiring if you're going to use the car to commute during rush hour

Oh..by the way.. You should be able to get a great deal on that car. It's Pontiac's worst selling car. There should be plenty in stock...so don't let them give you the "we don't have that many automatics crap"...or try and get you with a high price for the stick for that matter...

You should let them know that you know!! ..ask for how many days that car has been sitting their lot..

A year did you say??? hmmmm...

My Pontiac Wave hatchback is standard and I love it being that way... We waited for the Solstice to come out in automatic before getting one, and I am a standard driver who loves the Solstice automatic. I find it very cramped and can't imagine it being standard. I love the Solstice!

learning to use a stick shift transmission is pretty easy, BUT, do not buy a new car and learn to drive a stickshift. Borrow your friends car and learn first.

its not hard to learn on a stick,as long as you dont jump the clutch and roughen it,and dont scrape gears.it depends on where your going to drive.in a big city,i perfer automatic, but on the freeway a stick is better on gas.

choosing stick depends if you want the trouble of pushing the clutch in and out and moving the gear shift....automatic depends if you want to move it into gear without pushing in the clutch...and depending on how hard to find they are and if you have a boatload of money...?????
