I need to to know what the motives, purposes, and lessons that both the characters in these stories learned.

The motives, purposes, and lessons that the guy in walden learned

and McCandless's motives, purposes, and lessons that he learned from Into the wild

This is a lot to ask! I have read "into the wild" here is what I think:

Motives:
1. To be one with nature.
2. To be totally self sufficient
Purposes:
1. Self Exploration
Lessons Learned:
1. Don't eat poisons food - it kills you.
2. No amount of preparation can truly master natures diversity and thus cruelty.
