My old computer died, so I bought a new dell with vista premium. I had two hard drives on my old XP machine, and I want to transfer them over to have access to my files. I'm not sure but I think my secondary slave drive should transfer over normally, but will my old master which has XP installed on it as well as important documents that i need to get, have trouble being accessed in Vista?

You should have no problems, I have just recently done this (put an XP HDD in a Vista Machine) and I can access all my files. As long as you know where in the file structure your data is at you should have no problems accessing your information. Keep in mind that your going to hav issues accessing the information if you are trying to run the actuall programs from the XP drive (ie, you have office previously installed on your XP hard drive and you try to run it from Vista). My suggestion is to transfer all your files that you need over to the Vista drive and format the XP drive for more storage space!

died as in how? as in virus dead or power surged dead?...
with a virus ur pretty much stuck cuz you have to know which one is the bad drive that has it unless it got both, but if it died for another reason then i would do what the other one said, get a hard drive case and just put it in there and do it that way, or just get a cheapy case with a motherboard and burn it to a cd or DVD and put it on the new machine, whichever way ur gonna spend money.

No you shouldn't have any problem w/ it but for a safer transfer I would just buy a hard drive case and you can use it for an external hard drive.
