Not trying to sound cold hearted here but just what is Iraq in the sense of sacrifice to America, really, and, truly, compared to other wars, the U.S. has engaged in. There were more people killed at Gettysberg in a single afternoon than in 4 years in Iraq.

In Iraq, after four years, 3100+ Americans killed; In our great Civil War, after 4 years 400,000 american soldiers killed; WWI, after 1.5 years 100,000+ american soldiers dead; WWII, after 4 years, 400,000+ american soldiers dead; Korean war, after 3 years, 54,000+ dead, Vietnam War, after 13 +years, 54,000 dead.

In the U.S., each year, 40,000 plus americans are killed by violence, and, 40,000+ are killed in automobile accidents.

As a people can we move on to new ideas and policy accomplishments?

The Americans, the Europeans, and even the Israelis really don't know what it is all about, do they? During the last generation hundreds of thousands of children have been taught all over the Muslim world in madrass schools to become martyrs for Allah in order to kill the infidels.

These youngsters not only are ready to do it, but are actually in the process of doing it. Bombs are going off all over the world killing and maiming thousands of people, not only on 9/11 in the US, in London, Madrid and Bali, but in Africa, India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and many other places. The first signs of the Islamic tsunami are already here, but the West doesn't understand, or doesn't want to understand what is coming.

The Americans, instead of realizing that this is as bad as World War Two, or even worse, are going to pull out of Iraq, handing it over to Iran on a silver platter. Next may come the Saudis and the rest of the Gulf states. When dirty bombs go off all over Western towns, who is going to stop the Iranians?

OK if i understadn this correctly what your saying is that you dont think we are making any difference because of how many deaths there are??? If so then your retarded and why dont you come over here with me for a month or so and we'll see what you think when you get back. you cant say were not winning by how many people that have died you have to look at all the small accoplishments first and then look at the big picture. How do you think that you are going to change sumthing that has been going on for long then any of us have ever been alive. there is no way to just stop people from dieing. you know right now we are overpopulated!!!

It's the idea that they are dying for no reason. 3100 killed for no reason. Sure people die every day in car accidents and what not. Those are unaviodable deaths and we do whatever we can to make that number as small as we can. We try to make people as safe as we can. When we see a flaw we try and fix it. But with Iraq.. what goal is there that will benefit the US? Why did those 3100 soldiers die? If it could have been prevented by never going over there in the 1st place.

What, I think, makes the Iraq conflict so significant is the fact that we are embroiled in the civil war of another country....one that has nothing to do with the United States. And any loss of American life for that reason is shameful.

And even more shameful, as has been posted several times, is the loss of innocent Iraqi life. I suppose, in our vernacular, it will be deemed as collateral damage. But how is that right? Our 'plan' was to go in and FREE the Iraqi people...but in the end, what we did was kill them. Or was that really the plan....? Makes you wonder, huh?

Hey! Forget how many Americans have died. As many as 100,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed in this war.

If you are worried about terminology, then just call it a conflict.

What your statistics do demonstrate though is that America is a bloodthirsty, waring nation from its birth. It's a very sad state of affairs, as the USA could be such a wonderful world presence, yet ruin this opportunity with harsh, harsh foreign policy put in place by its ruling upper classes, who would never dream of sending their own sons to their death.

We should be thankful that the press was more responsible back in the 1940's, because we would have lost WWII through the press.

Imagine if the press reduced every battle in WWII to a body count? Public support would have nosedived. That is what the press is so intent upon now: derailing support for the war on terror, so a defeat will mean a victory for Liberals.

Great point, but the dead soldiers are the least of the USA worries. The dead are by and large from the lower classes of the caste system in the USA.

Greater problems by far are the hundreds of thusands of dead Iraqis and the wounded and maimed us soldiers and mercenaries limping home on plastic legs or in wheelchairs, or wearing diapers in beds for the rest of their expensive
and horrible lives.

It's not a war in the legal sense, it's a war in the sense of a sustained conflict.

As far as your numbers, does the fact that "only" 3200 Americans have died make their deaths insignificant?

Take a good look at the number of injured compared to the other wars. Some of the injured in this illegal war would have died in the other wars.

Under your reasoning, 9/11 was basically as important as one afternoon at Gettysburg.
