i personally would see crossdresser and gay differently.
crossdresser simply likes to crossdress but may not have special feelings for the same gender.
gay likes one of the same gender but may not cross dress. in fact, all of the gays i know do not crossdress....
and to me, gay is more acceptable than a crossdresser. sorry if that sounds offending. but that's just my very very personal opinion. no hard feelings.

Not at all. Gender identification is completely different from sexual orientation. For example, Dennis Rodman has been seen flamboyantly cross dressing on many occasions, but he is undoubtedly a straight man. Annie Lennox, a woman who in the 80s defined androgynous style for women, is straight. And I personally have known men who liked wearing women's clothing, but they liked women.

Eddie Izzard wears women's clothing and makeup, and he's not gay. So there you go.

If cross dressing makes you feel bullish and manly, I would say so.
