that's nothing my friend, what Roy did over his career is what counts most especially the playoffs.
Backstrom is 28 years old and is not eligible for the Calder trophy as hes to old the age is 26. he is a back up right now and still might not be a #1 goalie for a few more years it doesn't matter what his rookie year stats show it doesn't mean to much. cause there's lots of other goalies that are #1 and will get their shot.
redwingn…>>>>did you see the size of equipment Patrick Roy was wearing in his first 10 years way smaller then they are today and most goalies today started there NHL career's with over sized pads. you must of been born in the 90's to remember what Roy use to wear when he came in the league. also won the Stanley cup and Conn Smyth trophy his rookie year. he started wearing bigger pads just like any other goalie was in the mid 90's he had small pads from 86 to 94 and allot of his numbers come from the Habs years.

Too old and those numbers aren't good enough to beat an offensive player. Malkin has 31 goals and 78 points. He likely wins RoY. They likely go by who has the most points. Those numbers just don't compare even if Backstrom was eligible for the Calder Trophy.

if you're talking about Partick Roy... you should study Roy's numbers a little more before you compare him with Backstrom.
if you're talking about Rookie of the Year, isn't he nearly 30? I do believe there's an age limit on who is awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy.

He's too old.
The cut off as far as being classified as a rookie is 26 years old.

ROY got his numbers with over sized equipment without it I doubt very much we would even be talking about him right now.Yeah a good goaltender but without the over sized gear not great.
