the bd2 has an electric brake whereas the sb2 does not ...other than this feature they are practically the same saw..this is a good feature to have but will cost more to replace trigger switch if it goes bad as the brake is normally controlled by the trigger switch..

Get a Makita, they last forever. If you don't have strong hands, get a porter cable, they are pretty good and have fiberglass tables.

But I would really suggest the makita....since it is blue and I like blue.


Actually it looks like the main difference is the electric brake that slows the blade after you release the trigger...the BD2 has a break. The only other difference I can see is that the SB2 comes with a carrying case and the BD2 does not.

The bd2 was designed in 1993, the sb2 in 1997. If you go to the Hitachi web site you can find the parts breakdowns for both the models above. Just plug Hitachi in search engine and select their home site.
