You shouldn't use them at all. The boxes and commercials make them confusing to women. We think we should use them for sanitary reasons, when all it actually does is hurt you. They mess up the pH balance of bacteria and then leave you more prone to yeast infections, etc...

Unless prescribed by a doctor, NO douching is healthy or safe. All you're doing is leaving yourself open to yeast infections because douching washes away the beneficial flora in the vaginal canal.
Furthermore, if you already have an infection, the jetting action of the douche can wash the contaminants into the uterine cavity and you could end up with a potentially serious condition called PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.).
The vagina is a completely self-cleansing and self-maintaining organ. Don't mess with things that aren't broken!!

Douches, no matter what kind, are not helpful. If this is for hygiene, someone probably told you you smell bad and this probably is simply not true. If you have normal hygiene, and get all the nooks and crannies of the outer vagina, the inside takes care of itself, even after sex, even after your period. So don't buy the idea that you need to douche. Everyone is wrong...mom, boyfriend, magazines, and all those ads. WRONG WRONG WRONG.
I douched twice (two different times in my life) just out of curiousity. Nothing was wrong, I just wanted that "Oh so fresh feeling". Guess what I got? YEAST INFECTIONS. Both times. So much for that fresh feeling.
Actually douching makes problems worse. With douching, you send foreign substances up against gravity, and against the current of normal fluid movement, into places where they aren't supposed to be. This causes disturbances in the vaginal ecosystem leading to yeast infection, also sends germs from the outer vagina IN where they aren't meant to be and this can make you very sick. Both can cause irritation, soreness, itching, and odor, and they can even land you in the hospital with toxic shock syndrome. Douching is a grand act of cross contamination...moving a problem from one body part to another.
The only fluid that has any business going UP the vaginal canal is semen.

I heard that douches are bad.
But I think you mean a drugstore brand? Drugstore brands are usually the same thing as the name brands.

it's better, that way the it won't have all those extra harsh chemicals like the name brand because the name brands don't care about people, they're just worried about money, but anyway douching is not safe, it's better to make your own, just buy the cheaper brand, then pour it out and put in fresh water with a little vinegar or baking soda and use it
