Each hospital has their own rules. I would think so since a lot of people pay someone to stay with older parents in the hospital. Sometimes they pay strangers who do that for a living to stay overnight in the hospital with elderly parents.

Many hospitals now will set up another bed or cot for you to sleep on. This is even done in ICU, or for heart patients families. This allows you to be close but still able to rest. Just tell the desk that you will be sleeping and no phone calls will be put through. If allowable certainly someone else could stay while you get some sleep and a shower. Is usually a family member only in ICU, but exception are made.

In a regular hospital room, yes. In ICU or other recovery room, they limit anybody's stay to 10 minutes, so you might as well go get some sleep anyway.

Yes, there is no reason why this can't happen. All mother's worry but they also shouldn't take the chance of becoming ill themselves so if they have a trusted friend they'd leave in charge, they are blessed.
