I don't know how bad your basement is leaking,so I'll tell you one way to stop it,you can go to a hardware store and talk to a sales person and tell them how bad it's leaking so he can tell you what you might need,it could be something you put on with a brush or may have to have your outside wall dug up and put stuff on it plus put in drains,I hope you get the easy one, good luck!

Some people claim that a French drain solves that problem--I think that's a trench around the perimeter of the wall, but I've known people who have had that done and it didn;t work. What I did was buy that special waterproof paint for basements. First chip out any loose wall--cinder block, etc.--and then fill it with cement, plaster, spackle, and then paint the waterproofing paint on there. It works for several years and if you keep doing it over again, it'll stop leaking. Of course, if there's a Hurricane, like we had Hurricane Floyd in Penna., there's not much you can do. We had it finished off, even carpeted and that did us in. So, make sure you know that whatever you put down there could eventually get ruined.

A sump pump will probably be the cheapest, unless you want to dig out the dirt from around the outside walls and repair/seal the walls. You may already have one that just needs replacing.
