Here in the US our water systems have always been publicly owned and operated. In the past few years many of those systems have been upgraded with tax payer money and then sold to international corporations. The municipal water system in the small community that I live in has recently been upgraded. I'm waiting for the sale to follow.
These corporations do not consider access to water a basic human right. T. Boone Pickens is buying as many water rights as he can get his hands on. Apparently these people are positioning themselves for the droughts that are coming due to global warming.
