They don't...that's just what people used to smell like 60 years ago.....
It's us young folk that smell different!

the processes required to support life slow down as we age. That's why a sweaty 3rd grader smells different fro m a newborn( sans poopy diaper, claro). The byproducts of these processes give off smells when they combine with bacteria and oxygen--just like perspiration & menstrual blood does.
Also, many medications cause ones body to smell different, and some older folks have to take meds to stay healthy.
In Japan, they actually have a cover-up scent called "No Old Man Smell".
Good luck

Old people are usually dependent on other people to help them to clean themselves. If an old person has body odor or is incontenant and isn't cleaned up, it isn't so much the fault of growing old but the fault of the people who should be careing for them.

If the old people are eating a diet that creates body odor, who is feeding them? Old people are like children and must be cared for. Most old people cared for you at one time and now its time to return the favor. Hopefully the young people you are taking care of now will care for you should you be lucky enough to become old.

Nursing homes are statistically taking ROTTEN care of the old and that is why they smell bad. If you walked into a day care with children that smelled of urine or vomit, parents would sue and yet we treat our old people like this and think nothing of it.

They aren't able to clean themselves as well as young, flexible completely mobile people...they also use different powders, perfume, colognes than the younger generations, the have medications and eat different foods that contribute to their "smell"

Professor Winston once covered this.

Apparently it is due to the genetic make up of a person (of course opposite sex and attraction here, not personal hygiene).

The mare your genes differ from a person of the opposite sex, the nicer they allegedly smell.

Other than that its personal hygiene, what they eat and perhaps where they live (if you live in an indian restaurant then an obvious smell resides).
