Because we live in a technology based society and they are a modern advancement that is making life easier. Constantly new advances are coming along n the field of mobile phones and everytime they are makin life easier. My phone does everything I need and limits the amount of devices i need to carry with me. Anything I need to do I can do from my phone, if i wanna listen to music I have an mp3 player, if i need to check email i have the internet, if i need to take a picture i have a camera with a good resolution, heck i i am bored and on the train i can watch tv on my phone. And also if there is an emergency and someone needs to get me they can reach me anytime. All of this and yet it is in one tiny device. Mobile phones arent for everyone but there are those of us who are on the go and depend on one to gt everything we need.

I really don't know. I am one of a very small group of people that do not own one. I don't get it. Why do people think that they are so important, their phone calls can't be missed. I see folks shopping at the grocery store with a phone glued to their ear. Driving in the car with a phone in one hand and the other hand waving around. They are everywhere. My kids wanted to up grade me from the dark ages to modern age by getting me a cell phone. I said you have got to be kidding! I get to many calls now, why would I want even more. No thank you. Maybe I'll up grade from a wall phone to a portable. What do ya think. They just shake their heads. I am loving the comp. tho. Teach me more.

Man is a pack animal. The only way to exist in a pack is to communicate. Man is obsessed with communication.
Throw in a bit of status in the pack with what can be done with the phone or how expensive it is then you have a recipe for a great little seller.

I have no idea. Like most americans, I spend 95% of my life within 3 feet of a telephone and a cell phone is mostly unnecessary.

It's crazy....
Alot more work would get done if people would give "chatting" a break.
On the interstate..people swerve when I'm passing...I look and "yup, it's a cell to the ear!"

EDIT:
I think a cell is like a pacifier to some people.
Good for emergencies. (best use)

Advertising and peoples fears of being alone. They are sold to many people that have to "keep up with the Jones". Some people need to keep connected to someone all the time.

I don't know, I don't have one. I think it's a general public insecurity, that now EVERYTHING is an emergency, and needs immediate attention. God forbid that they have to wait an hour before you get home to check the message before you tell them what shoes you think they should wear.

the allusion of need, in the reality of a want.

No idea. My phone is a pain to have. I get my manager phoning me constantly on it, junk e-mails and nothing much beyond that. I'd get rid of it in a second if my company didn't force me to have one.

I couldn't care less about mine as long as i can send messages and make calls. Don't give a toss about whether theres a camera or video on it (there is though) or what colour it is (pink)
