I had teh mirena and i hated it myself. i had constant cramps and i was skipping periods and it just made me miserable. My mother on the other hand has the copper one and has had one put in after every child for the last 21 years. She loves it and won't dream of having it removed. the only thing that i have ever heard her complain of is having heavier periods but she doesn't have cramps with it. Some of the side effects are: the IUD does have a posibility of breaking through the uterus and their is also a risk of PID. Some women find that insertion is painful though i thought that childbirth hurt alot more. I had mine removed in about four months and it doesn't hurt at all to have it taken out. So it is more of how your body will handle it, its the same thing with the pill some people like me can't handle it and some have no problems with it. Good luck and i hope this helped you out some

First, be aware that the Mirena IUD (the most commonly used type of IUD) has hormones in it, so if you're considering it as an alternative to the pill because of hormonal upset, this may not solve the problem.

I had Mirena inserted when it first came on the market. I must have been an exceptional case because my time with it was miserable.

The insertion was so painful I cried. Afterward, I had bleeding and cramping that terrified me, and I'd nearly bled to death in childbirth!

Then for the next 5 months, I had had more bleed days than not. I had constant cramps, sex was unbearable, and the IUD eventually punctured my uterus so thoroughly that I had to have it surgically removed. To this day I have scar tissue from it that can be seen on ultrasounds and completely blocks my right fallopian tube.

I know I'll probably get a TON of thumbs downs for this answer, but you asked specifically for personal experiences and what side effects I had, so there you go. I would rather be taken out and shot than to be told I needed to get another IUD.

I have the Mirena IUD and I love it. I have not had any problems with it. In the beginning you do have a lot of spotting but eventually the IUD settles in. I no longer have heavy painful periods. I wish I would have gotten it a lot sooner.

Hi. I had an IUD put in after I gave birth to my one-and-only son.
I found my cramps were 100% worse than they had ever been before, and the bleeding was heavy.
[I did not get pregnant, so it was effective.]
I had it removed one year after I had it put in because the cramps nearly incapacitated me.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Yes, that's common. There are many facet results of the tablet and my wager is that's what your drawback is. Give your frame a while to regulate or speak for your medical professional approximately might be an additional tablet, like a minimize dose hormone.
