FDR was not a liberal and WW II solved the depression with the increased employment do to the war effort. But to answer the question, Liberals have solved the problem of reduced taxes and keeping deficits down by promoting increased taxation and renewal of entitlement programs. Heaven knows that the disenfranchised in this country shouldn't have top get educated or employed as long as the Libs want to give them a free ride. BTW, Roosevelt was a Democrat. He, nor would anyone up until the 90s have know what a Liberal was. Idiots need labels. It's the bad programs the Democrats promote that are the problem, stupid.

Here are a few:

Ended slavery, ended child labor, created 8 hour workday, created food and drug administration, drove civil rights movement, created social securlity to make it less likely that the elderly will starve, created medicare to ensure some level of healthcare, steadfast protection of civil liberites for all.

Here are some problems created by conservatives that we "liberals" will still need to work on fixing:

Expanding disparity between rich and poor; out of control deficit spending which mortgages the future for our children; inequitable tax structures; continued reliance on fossil fuels when they are no longer technically necessary; undue religious infilitration into our national law and policy making processes; constant erosion of personal liberties; and perhaps most importantly, destroying the image of and respect for our great nation around the world.

We've got our work cut out for us.

Remember, progress is a good thing!

Good Luck!

Response to rmagedon:

It is undisputable that the Great Depression was ended by "liberal policies". Do conservatives create massive jobs programs? Nope, they don't. Massive government spending is what ended the Great Depression. The only thing Roosevelt did wrong was to spend too little. Only the government has the ability to infuse the economy with enough stimulus to make it grow.

How about the depression that was brought about by the conservative Taft, Coolidge, and Hoover administrations? Have you ever heard of FDR? Have you ever heard of segregation, Civil Rights, JFK, or Martin Luther King? The biggest problem the Liberals fixed is that about 225 years ago America was ruled by a Conservative king in England. This liberal named Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. After they got rid of the foreign rule, liberals wrote the Bill of Rights and made freedoms part of our Constitution.

Government-sanctioned racial and gender discrimination, just for a start.

In fact, "Liberal" denotes someone who is committed to change. "Conservative" defines, just that, "conserving" the status quo (in other words, not changing anything.) So virtually all progressive changes in the world tend to be initiated by liberals.

If there were no "liberals", I guarantee you would not have the freedom of speech to be able to openly express your grumpy reactionary rant on this nice free Internet, sweetie. :-)

What kind of question is this!?! Are you some closed minded ape? Have you noticed that the great institutions of learning are liberal? And most of the great scientist that have contributed to the great knowledge we have were liberal.

Stop and think before asking dumb questions.

In the past? that would be way too easy (defeated Hitler, Great Depression.. the list goes on) as for the new Congress... can you name anything the libs have tried that the Republicans haven't blocked?

The Great Depression, World War II, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Voting Rights and Civil Rights Acts, the end to the war in Vietnam, Fair Housing laws, peace in Boznia, deficit turned into surplus (till Bush), the booming domestic economy and stock market of the mid 1990's and early 2000's.

Not any of the recent Dems. Carter was held captive by terrorist and let interest and home loan rates ballooned to unprecedented levels and Clinton did nothing on terrorism and had people steal documents to hide his ineptness as a president.

Sorry but no, but I can give you a litany of the problems they have caused if you are interested.

As for those that are under some neurotic fantasy that Roosevelt fixed the depression you are seriously delusional. The New Deal policies deepended and lengthened the depression and prior liberal policies in banking were the substantive cause, so the Depression in all of its ugliness was a liberal fiasco.

If you can read get the book or at least read the article. I have to admit it is all pretty dry reading, you know macroeconomics and such.
