Your baby gets the inferior nutrition of formula and is deprived of the protections provided by the antibodies present in mother's milk.

Your breasts get engorged and uncomfortable for a few days until your body figures out that you're not nursing. Then you dry up.

Your milk supply will dry up. Unfortunatley, it is not a pleasant experience though....your breasts will become engorged and it will be a bit painful for a little while.
If you want them to dry up, go to the grocery store and buy some cabbage. Peel the leaves off and put them in the freezer, then once they are frozen, put them directly on your skin in side your bra and leave them there until they begin to wilt. The cold will help with the discomfort and cabbage has an enzyme in it that helps dry up breastmilk. Sounds CRAZY I know....but it works. In fact, they used to give a woman in injection to help stop milk production, but there were too many bad side affects, so they don't offer it anymore...but in the hospital, they will probably tell you about the cabbage leaf thing.
Just out of curiousity....why wouldn't you want to breastfeed? It is the healthiest thing for your baby and it has many benefits for you too...it burns around 500 calories per day, it helps your uterus shrink faster after giving birth, and it's free!

you will have a few days of major discomfort then you will dry up and feel fine! If you are wondering what happens if you use formula instead, then you will still have a healthy baby, but if you can breastfeed you should try for at least the first couple months.
