Most of the moisture carrying winds blow from the arabian sea, into the peninsular India. The western Ghats act as an obstruction, and hence, there is high rainfall on the windward side of western ghats. Whereas the lee-ward side receives less rainfall, and hence the interior North Karnataka region experiences severe drought like conditions throughout the year.
The eastern ghats do not have good height. They are broken, and do not form a long chain along the coast like the western ghats. So, they do not influence the wheather change to a great degree.
