am i right? it's genetics, you are born to be fast, and if you are not born to be fast, you can't be fast, you can not teach speed, and you'll never be fast

Maybe you can't be as fast as someone who's "born" with it but you can get very close. Resistance training and plyometrics are making "hares" out of "turtles" nowadays. And some speed is just sheer desire.

You can increase your speed to an extent. You could improve your 40 time by a few tenths of a second, and you could get quicker and more endurance. But you're not going to get to an elite speed just by training.

But you can improve quickness and reaction time, which can compensate for a slower speed.

You can teach people how to be stronger. If you do the right workouts you will increase your speed. Some people may have a higher max when it comes to speed.

You can train for speed, as has been said previously.

As this has been posted in the basketball section, I'd note that speed is not very important in basketball. Quickness maybe, but not speed.

You can teach someone how to be faster and you can train someone to be more athletic, so theoretically, you CAN teach speed.

There are techniques to running such as keeping your hips square and taking even strides that will help you get faster

I think it's more correct to say you can't teach quickness.

my guess is its all in how active someone is as a child and if that continues as they get older, if kids just play video games all the time they wont be fast

I don't know. I imagine lots of practice can improve speed, otherwise, why would Olympians train?

Actually!....you can become faster by conditioning your body...
strength training...loseing excess wieght that will slow you down......of course if your parents are athletic it may help .....
But never!...underestimate yourself!......learn proper technique...and strengthen your body , you will be surprised at how quik you will become!
