How come this person got to choose how our life should be structured (Ie 'a typical week')?

If it was up to me it would be 4 days work, 3 days off at the LEAST. There is more to life than work, and far too much of our time is spent working!!

Anyone agree?

I agree, I'd much rather work more hours on fewer days, and have an extra day off.

In comparison to many other countries, we Americans are workaholics - many European countries laugh at the average vacation of 2 weeks a year... they get a month or more. It could be worse though, we could be working in Japan...

Isn't there another country where people do that? I can't remember which one.

I would rather work 3 12-hour days and have the rest of the week off. That way you would work your a** off for 3 days and then chill for 4. That would be awesome. Thats only 36 hours but if you work all 36 they should pay you for 40.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and you should get a week paid vacation once a month.

I have a 3-4 day work week. There are plenty of jobs like that. So...where does it "must" consist of the 5/2 structure?

Until the last decade of the 19th Century, it was customary for people to work six days a week, with Sundays set aside for church and family. The labor movement in the United States fought for a five-day work week, and it was achieved only after strikes and riots.

American workers work far more hours than their counterparts in Europe, with fewer holidays, and their production rates tend to be greater. Some people have proposed a four-day week, but labor and management representatives have concluded that workers would be inclined to take on second jobs and would end up with less, rather than more, leisure time.

Just a couple points

-many people work different hours - people in the service industry, retail, food service

-I think it would be bad news if our Banks, Government offices, Insurance companies, and other such business were closed for three days straight EVERY WEEK.

-While I totally agree with you and I would love to spend 4 10 hour days working ('cause really, your evenings are shot anyway!), that doesn't mean that every one would!

-American's put in more hours at work than any other nation... France, for example, has a work week of 35 hours.

Time is really non existant but was invented to give humans structure and purpose as our lives are finite and temporal. We need a systematic structure to measure life by.

Each career field determines how much time people will work and how much should be accomplished during that time. Determining how people will use their alloted time is totally up to you and the groups you associate with.

A 5-day work week? How do you get one of them? I've always had to work 7 days, plus run a house, go to school at night, grocery shop, laundry and what everever else was required.
