my husband is constantly inviting his family to accompany us when we go somewhere. it doesnt bother me that they go, but what does bother me is that they expect him to pay for everything they want. How do I get him to stop paying? Like I said before, it doesnt bother me that they go. His family is his family and always will be, but I dont want them taking advantage.....

I have the same problem but we resolved it by being open with each other and to his family. We only invite his family when we know we can afford it but it not we just tell them straight forward..for instance, " we are going to bowling, if you want to go, we can split the cost.."

Have you already talked to him about this and he's made the decision that he WANTS to continue paying for them? Or is he afraid to stand up and tell them that next time he can't foot their bill? If he won't stop paying, then you could try only going to relatively inexpensive places with his family. Otherwise tell your husband that you want to be alone with him. If you two cannot afford to keep paying then you can sit down and go through your finances together and he might come to his own conclusions about how that money should have been spent.

Next time you go out with them just flat out say, "Hey, we got the bill last time, I think it's your turn." Say it smiling and somewhat joking but don't back down. Just say that it's good to take turns. And if they don't then tell your husband that he needs to talk with them privately or the family outings may need to be a little more few and far between until they realize that you aren't a money tree.

Tell him that it is only fair that they pay occasionally. You guys need to save up for you guys too. That type of behavior leads to family doing all sorts of crazy stuff like them moving in with you guys. LOL Maybe next time make sure he doesn't bring his wallet, hide it! Or tell his family (intentionally) that you guys are running low on cash or saving for something so it is only going to be a dinner with only you and him. They will get the hint and actually pitch in. If not, they are being inconsiderate and you need to stick up for yourself.

Just tell him that you don't think you all can afford to keep paying for them everytime.......it looks to me like his parents would be considerate and pay once in a while to me.
