they are going to ask personal questions about your son/daughter about their lifestly and maybe some personal questions about you, i am quite surprised though they dont normally interview the parents just the offender, dont worry the probation officer will be very understanding and comferting.

Depending on the crim he committed they will want to know ...will you provide him with a place to live? (if he is a sex offender then your answer is NO if you have small kids)
Can you take the call waiting off of your phone?

Who lives with you?
Are you working (to try to find out how much time he will be home alone? and if you can take him back and forth to work since working or attending school will be a requirement for him to stay free)
They will also probably want to make sure that you understand what his probation consists of so that you can help them (no drugs or alcohol no associating with felons etc)

Whatever you do, please do not blame yourself for him being in this mess. This is his fault and despite your best attempts to raise him as a good person, he took the wrong path. Do not let him blame ANY of this on you and dont go in there with your head down thinking that they are thinking you are a failure, you are not! this was his choice and his decision! ANy good mother will support and love her child but HE DID THIS NOT YOU so HOLD YOUR HEAD UP HIGH and dont ever ask yourself where have I failed him or what should I have done. YOU did the very best you could!

Trixie
They're going to ask you things that will help the judge (or jury) to make a decision on how to sentence your child. What, specifically, they ask depends on those asking.

I would imagine they'll ask you about your child's history, how s/he did in school, how s/he got along with others, what you did when the child got in trouble, how did that work...

Basically, just tell them the truth... when you try to "spin" something it usually backfires. If your child is a juvenile the judge will be trying to do what's in your child's best interest and being honest will help him/her do that.

If they don't ask something you feel it is important for the judge to know, at the end of the interview just say. "Before we finish, I'd just like to let you know...."

Be sure and ask if and how you can read a copy of the finished report. You should attend the sentencing hearing and if the report doesn't include something you feel is important you can ask to be heard before the judge passes sentence... hopefully you'll then be allowed to speak to the court.

Good luck to you and your child, I'll pray it goes well.

What kind of a kid your child is. If this is something they're normally inclined to do. Would you be willing/able to take your child home and cooperate with house arrest. What kind of student your child is..

That kind of stuff.

If your son (I assume) was abused, if he ever has had a mental illness, been on medication, what his childhood was like, how available were you to him, how he did on school, was he ever aggressive, did he hurt animals, does he use drugs, does he lie, etc.
