Silly question... (well, i guess it's not actually since I will be a first time mom)
What do you need when you change the baby.. Obviously you have a clean diaper and wipes. But then do you use baby powder or a lotion on the butt? Or are products like that only needed if the baby has diaper rash (which is from the diaper rubbing right?)
And if a product is needed everytime, does anyone have a favorite choice (like Johnson & Johnson?)

You can use powder if you like, but you will only need creams/lotions if the baby has diaper rash. Diaper rash is not only caused by friction but by moisture also. If you change your baby several times a day, you can avoid diaper rash most of the time. If your baby dooes develop diaper rash, be sure to clean the area well and then apply a diaper rash cream to the affected area. Bathing your baby and letting him/her lay without a diaper for a while will help the area dry out and get some fresh air.
Don't worry....It is all easier than it sounds. It will be like second nati\ure once your little bundle of joy arrives!
There are tons of different products available. For a newborn, and for baby girls, you want to use products that don't have any perfumes in them. For diaper rash, Desitin or Gold Bond makes a good cream. Also, Bordeaux's Butt Paste is good, but it can be more costly.
Good luck and Congrats!

okay as for diapers you should know that luvs are the best. they are cheaper and are better than huggies and pampers put together. i know that wasnt a question but i made the mistake of buying the expensive diapers when my son was first born. it was just more money out of my pocket then was needed. now as for things you need baby powder isnt really needed unless the baby gets diaper rash. if he/ she does get it then i would suggest mixing any brand of baby powder with corn starch. dont waste money on diaper rash cremes. diaper rash is cause by the wettness of the diaper, so puting lotion, vasalene, or creams that are wet can just make it worse. i just use genaric products and they work just as well as johnson & johnson and other expensive brands. genaric soap works at bath time too. the lavender scented kind helps put them to sleep.

DON'T use powder!!! As I understand it, talc based powders can be especially problematic for babies. No need to use lotions or creams either. If baby gets rashy, you can dry a rash cream. I've always used either expressed breastmilk or lanolin (the kind for nursing mothers).

You should give your baby some time out of dipes every day to let the air circulate. Cloth diapers are better than disposable at giving air circulation. Rash can be caused by a sensitivity to formula or sometimes by a sensitivity to something in the mom's milk. Yeast can cause a rash too.

A diaper and wipes for sure. They say not to use powder because the baby can inhale it. You really only need diaper cream if the baby seems red around their areas, and it's usually not from the diaper rubbing as much as from the wetness of their bottom. My favorite product is "Boudroux Butt Paste" and you can find it in the baby isle of any pharmacy.

You will just need diapers and wipes. At night you might wanna use diaper rash cream that will help treat & prevent diaper rash, and help seal out wetness. If you wanna use baby powder I recommed using liquid powder it goes on like a lotion, quickly dries to a powder.

Brands: Diapers-- Huggies
Wipes-- Huggies
Liquid Powder-- Huggies
Diaper Rash Cream --Johnson & Johnson

ur right Obviously you have a clean diaper and wipes i wouldnt use baby powder its been said its not healthy for ur baby if ure expecting a girl it can give her yeast infections(yes they can get em that young). be careful with powder because they may breathe some in. i have 2 daughters and the best diapers i've used is huggies supreme. wipes hyggies or pampers(soft touch). johnson & johnson really good. i've tried the kind in the green bottle it smells good and feels like my babys skin is getting the moisture she needs. yes u can put lotion on ur babys butt, i wouldnt use diaper rash cream until a rash appears. good luck and make coupons ur friends u can go online to huggies.com and the'll send u samples and coupons every month.

I have a girl and only use wipes unless there is a sign of a rash starting. At night we do put A&D on her just because she is going to be in the diaper for a longer period of time and the provides a good barrier against wetness. If I do see any red bumps started I LOVE Bordeax's Butt Paste. It is a bit pricy compared to others but it works SO good and wipes off easily. Good luck! :)

Baby powder helps prevent diaper rash, which is caused by the ammonia in the urine irritating the baby's skin. Zinc ointment is for rashes. At first you will need to change a newborn every two or three hours until you get to know your baby and how often they need a dry diaper.

No lotion or powder. If you need a rash cream, you need to get one just for that. I liked one called Butt Paste. And you can use it to help prevent rash too, not just treat one. And diaper rash mostly comes from being in contact with the waste products, not friction.

I just use wipes and a clean diaper. I never put anything else on my daughter, I just feel that the more you add, the more likely its going to stay moist and cause diaper rash. Plus baby powder is only a smell cover up. No need to add extra, we don't, so why should our babies?
