It would really depend on what it was but usually I am an observer personally - However if it was something of a serious nature I am not going to sit around and "watch" it happen either :) So I guess I might be both - What about you?

Sometimes rather Watch & observe to learn and enjoy, sometimes participate actively to experience and enjoy.

Depends what it is.
Football - prefer to watch the match in real life rather than on TV.
Most other things I'd prefer to participate though

I tend to watch until I figure out the game and the players then I become a participant.

First, I observe what is going on and then participate. It also depends on the situation so I act accordingly!

Participant if I can get in. Playing in a team in a sport is surely infinitely more enjoyable and far healthier than watching it, and that applies to most other things in life even working very hard yourself getting covered in sweat is more satisfying and enjoyable than sitting on your bum watching others do all the work?
