Moms who have precipitous labor (naturally occuring under 4 hours) tend to have that run in the family and have it happen each time. Yes, there is a chance you wouldn't get to the hospital. Have you considered speaking to a midwife about having a homebirth instead?

I am glad you asked this question. My first baby was born in under three hours from first contraction to her coming out. the midwife had to break my water after two hours of contractions...it was so intense. I am also scared of giving birth before I get to the hospital. But overall, aren't we lucky that our bodies do this so fast? Sometimes I hear of women with 24 or 36 hour labors and I can't even imagine. 3 hours was a gift from God. I am 25 weeks along, and hope I have another fast labor...but not too fast, like in the car! I live about 15-20 minutes from the hospital and I plan to jump in the car right when contractions start. I wish you the best of luck and health to your baby. Fast labors rock!

It is a possibility depending on how far away you are from the hospital. You should definitely discuss it with your doctor. Every woman is different. You labor doesn't always get faster everytime. If you think you're running too high of a risk, you might see if your doctor will schedule to have your labor induced about a week before your due date to help give you peace of mind. Or maybe there's someone you can stay with who lives closer to the hospital at the end of your pregnancy? I think the best thing to do is not to worry too much. Have everything ready to go, so that you can leave instantly at the first sign of labor. Definitely talk to your doctor about your concerns and see what suggestions and advice s/he has.

I wouldn't stress about it, my aunt had 4 children, the first one was a fast delivery, second one was long, third was fast, only an hour from start to finish, and the hospital prepared her for a home or car birth just in case she didn't make cause she was a half hour away from the hospital. Her 4th child was the longest delivery. So it all depends, and nobody can determine that. Maybe you should plan a fast route to the hospital, or find someone, friend or family member, that lives close to the hospital and stay there for your last week, but then again, you may go later, or sooner. So in the end, don't stress, just wait and see what happens.
Your other option is to call an ambulance, at least you would be with medically trained individuals instead of the back seat of your car.

There is a huge possibility that you won't make it. Have you thought about discussing inducing labor with your doctor? I was induced with my first child. As long as the baby has developed all of his/her organs and you are about 38 weeks, then it shouldn't be a problem. Basically you make arrangements with your doctor and the hospital where you plan to deliver, go in about 6 or 7 am and your doctor can either break your water, or if that doesn't work, they start you on a pitocin drip, which will make your body start to have contractions and go into labor. It might be something to talk to your OBGYN about. Hope this helped.

doesnt mean you will go faster! My water never broke with either children. My first I was in labor for about 13 hours, my second child it was about 4 hours of labor, got to the hospital just in time. So this time along you might have a long labor. So if you see any signs of labor get to the hospital and you will be fine. I'm guessing with your first you didnt know you were in labor for awhile, I never heard of anyone whos first labor only lasted 3 hours.

I used to think the same way. Then I got the call that my sister's water broke with her 4th child and I better get my behind to the hospital an hour away. So I drove like a mad woman to get there before the baby was born.... then spent 12 hours in the waiting room!
Just be prepared to go to the hospital when your water breaks or your contractions are regular. You'll probably make it just fine.

My first labor last all of about 5 hours. My second one lasted about 14 and my last one lasted about 8. My first born was my smallest and was 2 weeks early. My second born was only 5 days early and my third one was the biggest and was going to be induced the day I went into labor. I had to have my water broke by the doctor with all three. My first one was almost born in his water sac.

The chances are good...................... Be prepared, Have everything ready. Dont wait once you start to feel contractions, Have hubby start driving, if its not real labor , oh well go home, better safe then sorry. If you feel damp, change, feel damp again go. Sometimes water leaks before it breaks.
On a personal note YOU SUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My first was 17 hours of hard labor, my second was 38.5 also hard ( induced with both) SO YEAH YOU SUCK!!! 3 hours isnt labor what the hell is that lol Im just kidding dear..... wishing you a safe and happy birth...... Good luck....

Wow! I wish my labor was 3hrs. I went in labor on April 5th 2005 and my daughter didn't arrive until the 7th.(my first and only child) My water never broke..the lady had this plastic thing with a little hook on the end. It looked kind of like a knitting(crochet?) needle hook
Anyway I dont think that your previous experience would effect the present one.
When my aunt was in labor with her first child it was about 5 hours and then with her next child it was 14 hours, so it all depends.
Don't worry yourself too much though, because the baby can feel that you are stressed or worried. I think you'll make it.
