First of all, there is a difference between smudge proof and waterproof. Second, oil from your eyelids does work it s way down to the lashes.
After I moved to the south, waterproof mascara started smudging under my eyes, and I have been looking for a non tube, smudge proof mascara for my sensitive eyes ever since. I m pretty good about not rubbing my eyes, but mascara still ends up beneath my eyes, and if I am not careful and touch my upper lashes, the mascara will smudge on my upper lid as well.
If anyone has some good recommendations for a smudge proof mascara (it doesn t need to be waterproof), I would love to hear about it.

I would advise on either water proof or smudgeproof mascara. if the air is hot and humid, I would have you try waterproof, or if you keep touching your eyes for some odd reason, then get smudgeproof... clear mascara isn't your only option!

No, try a good waterproof. Max Factor's Lash Perfection waterproof is great!

that use to happen to me. put clear mascara on before using one that's black or brown, that way it will stay on and your eyes will be well defined b/c you went over them with a clear one that won't harden your eyelashes

Make sure to always get waterproof. Yeah, it's probably a good idea to get clear.

you dont put mascara on your eyelids... so it shouldnt matter if they are oily or not.
mascara goes on your eyelashes.
