ok Im going for a chest x-ray. I will wear a cotton shirt and a training bra with no metal clasps or buttons or anything like that do you have to change for a chest x-ray .. on a teen girl I have sore ribs there for is a chest xray even needed?? can you tell the tech people I dont want to change into a gown when Im wearind aceptible clothing???

When doing a CXR, the pt generally has to stand with chest up against the board. The person performing the xray has to be able to see your spine so they can properly align the crossbar of the light to you. Otherwise, they may not be able to get all of your ribs, lungs onto the xray. Is it your ribs that are sore or the intercostal spaces (area between ribs). If it's the area between ribs, and are sick with cough, you might have pleurisy. Did you get injured?? They might be looking for a cracked rib, which they really can't do much for other than prescribe pain meds. Cooperate with xray person, they are professionals, it's makes their and your life easier, besides, you don't want to have to do more xrays than necessary. Tell them your bra has absolutely no metal and they might let you wear the bra but still want you to wear a gown or paper shirt opened in back so they can see your spine. Metal not good with xray because it pulls more radiation to that area.

The reason patients have to change into gowns is because the material in clothing can show up in a chest x-ray, obscuring the image and lowering the quality of the exam. Certain fabrics, seams, elastic, etc. can be seen on the films. The material the gowns are made from do not obscure the image. Even hair that is wet and hanging down someone's back can be seen on a chest x-ray because of the density. So, metal is not the only thing that can be seen. Private changing and waiting rooms are typically provided for patients having x-rays. It's important to have the exam done properly so it can be read by the radiologist properly. Good luck!

Talk to the technicians about your feelings, but usually you need to change into a gown. It is no big deal really. I had an x-ray on my lower back and had to change into a gown, you are not exposed in anyway. But like I said, talk to the techs and see what they say.

Yeah, you shouldn't have to change into a gown. The x-ray is needed to make sure your ribs not cracked or you have pneumonia. Don't worry about it, it will only take a few minutes to do it.

Don't know about the gown. Maybe you can talk them into going with your bra instead. Don't know about that.

They should be able to take it with your shirt on without the bra. If you do have to get into a gown it's not like you have to take everything off. Just shirt and bra......It's no big deal it's fast and easy....

You have to wear the gown or it will falsify the results. The gown is made of a special material that's completely transparent to x-rays.

no, you have to change into the gown.
they let you wear underwear but not a bra, and you go into a seperate area to change into the gown. its not bad. dont worry

All you have to do for a chest x-ray is breathe in deeply - it isn't hard, but tell them that you have discomfort normally/breathing so they know.

no, ur not aloud to wear a bra!! i had to do it as well!! So uncomfortable
