these are gonna be the people runnin the nation and it would seem that we would rather they emotionally feel good, than be in good physical shape, or know anything. and dont even get me started about the tv being a babysitter......im a stay at home parent of a toddler that i swear, hides red bulls in her room and drinks them after naps and in the morning. and the tv is only playing music until she goes to sleep. at least im in good cardiac shape, ahaha...

but seriosuly, this is not a smart way of doing things. am i right?

i like the idea of segregating kids based on ability. if theyre stupid...slowing the smart ones way downisnt going to make them smart...its going to make the smart ones lazy, and all this garbage with kids getting offended over gifted programs is bogus....of course if youre too stupid to get in youll be upset.,,,,,

We are certainly not the bottom of the rank acroos the world, we're actually somewhere in the thirties. However when you look at other factors, it makes sense. For one we have something called no child left behind. So all Special ed students are tested along with the rest of the children, also some countries decide that some students can't go further, therefore keeping their smarter students in school and scewing the average. As far as physical shape, i blame computers and any parent that lets a child have one in their room. Go outside play some sports.

"Limbo time!"

The answer to your question is that not all children enjoy education and those that don't take away from those that do, so schools have make sacrifices to help the majority while not giving up on the minority.

At least that is what they were teaching teachers in college. You have thirty children and 3 may be gifted and 3 may be disruptive. That means 24 are some where in the middle and you need to teach them as well. It is a matter of budgeting your time effectively.

I think it all boils down to parents feeling guilty about not spending enough time with their kids so they let them do whatever they want and eat whatever they want, etc. If people would just see that you don't need all that stuff....big houses, fancy cars-usually more than 2...and loads of toys, that kids want us, as parents, to spend quality time with them, the kids would be better behaved, in better shape and wow...I am going on and on here. This is a topic I am very passionate about. I am also a stay-at-home Mom and I make sure my child gets attention, exercise and good meals. I live very simply and am always broke financially but I have a healthy, stable kid.

Unfortunately, people tend to follow what society believes to be the best for familylife, no one is willing to stand up and use thier own brain and come up with thier own stadards, we all know what is right and wrong and how we should implement that in our childrens upbringing, too much of anything is always going to do damage.

I know.. They're all so lame. The parents AND the children. The next generation will probably suck. You know the one or two people at your work that spin around in the chair all day? 20 years from now, 60% will be like that.

I have the same opinion. No child left behind has come to mean no child gets ahead. We have to start working harder at educating our countries children. Japanese children are drilled in facts and concepts from an early age. Maybe we need to let kids who excell get ahead, and the rest just drill them till they get it.

Because the people that are running this country don't want people to be smart or to think for themselves. They have an agenda and education is not a priority for them. It is not in their interests.

I think you have to look towards the parents, especially when the children are young and in their informative years.

yes, everything you stated is so true, we are in such a dilemma over our youth, so thank-ful, ours are raised and have their life's well on the paths they have chosen, we need to show our kids they are loved and wanted, not just a bother, interferring with mommy & daddy's plans
