Adding a hardrive CAN increase performance but only if you're using a raid system or it's a faster hardrive then the old one. The real question is what are you trying to speed up? games? if games you need a real video card. Loading apps? a raid system. running multiple apps? cpu or more memory. need more info to answer correctly.

Hi cdabexx,

Adding a hard drive will not make your PC any faster at all.

You have a good system. You would get some speed increase from adding more RAM although 1.5 Gig isn't bad.

If you don't regularly scan for spyware doing that will give you a big boost and you can do it all totally free.

AntiSpyware watches for malicious cookies, spy ware and other malicious things put on your computer by websites that want to spy on you or use your system. Their running uses resources and slows down your system sometimes to a crawl.

First you should have Windows Defender. It is free from Microsoft and watches your system and prevents programs from taking over your home page etc.

Go here to read about and get it - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security...

Two other free programs you should get & run about once a week are Spybot and Adaware. They also are free and you can get them both here - http://www.download.com/

Between those three you are doing a pretty good job of protecting your system and keeping it operating at peak efficiency.

Norm.

Simply adding a second hard drive is not going to increase performance. Visit my site below and read the section under Computer Talk, Optimizing Your Systems Performance for ways to tweak the best performance out of the system. This should also give you some idea why just adding a second drive will actually slow you down, rather than speed you up. Hope this helps
